Old Reyhanli Kilm finest woven in Anatolia
textiles

Reyhanli Kilim, 64”W x 132”L

Net Price:  $10,000.00

The old Reyhanli kilims are among the finest woven in Anatolia, and their designs are well drawn and precise.  The superb quality of this kilim suggests that it was probably woven for sale or to become part of a dowry because it appears to be unused!  Since the early part of the 20th century weaving has stopped in this area, the village of Reyhanlli itself does not have much to offer the visitor apart from, of course, the usual warm Turkish hospitality.

This piece is distinguished by its large mirror images woven in two halves.  Natural white cotton is used frequently to set off the other subtle colors.  Multiple borders are also predictable in the Reyhanli design.  The quality of weaving is very fine, the wool tightly

spun, and of a lustrous silky texture.

It is hard to estimate the age of this beautiful piece because of its suburb condition.  I feel it has been hung on the wall as a decoration or been used sparingly on a banquette.
